Ghosts, murder, rock music, and Kevin Bacon? Could this be FOOTLOOSE II: THE QUICKENING in which the spirit of Jon Lithgow's preacher returns to help Kevin Bacon's character Ren destroy the solar shield that was the savior of mankind but is now dooming humanity to a cold, dark future? Nope, but that *would* be absolutely fantasic, wouldn't it. A CGI dance sequence and we all find out that Ren wasn't just from a different town, he was from the mystical planet Zeist and was banished to Earth after a failed revolution? Ah, maybe the rotting corpse of Freddie Mercury could do the soundtrack. Anyway, the movie that has all those things mentioned earlier is "STIR OF ECHOES", and, while not quite as wonderful as FOOTLOOSE II: THE QUICKENING would *probably* be (if the would just let Russel Muchahey edit it like he wanted to), it is a fine film. The mystery gets thin fast, but the heebie-jeebies last all the way through. And what *is* it about Ilena Douglas? She's got them big, buggy, creepy eyes and a mouth like a trophy winning bass, but damn, can she act. The kid in this one, unlike the child in THE SIXTH SENSE, kinda' sucks. You know, he's all, "Blah, blah, blah, Daddy," blinking his doeish eyes. He's cute, but, then again, so's Ashley Judd, and we all know how good an actor she is. The film is interesting, an old fashioned ghost story. Check it out for a tense, nail biting, Ilena Douglas Repulsion/Attraction session.
